Range Rules and Additional Resources

Safety is our number one priority on the range.
Here’s a list of rules that we ask you to follow when on the range to ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone.
All Firearms Must Be Cased or Holstered Upon Entering the facility.
Please ensure that all firearms are safely stored away upon entering the storefront. Firearms may be holstered, stored in a case or range bag, or even brought in safely in a backpack. Anything that prevents unnecessary muzzling or unsafe handling of firearms in the retail area.

Ammunition Restrictions

Shooters may bring their own ammunition with them to the range if they’d like. If doing so, please refrain from using any type of steel ammunition in our range. Specifically no steel cased, steel-cored, tracer rounds, incendiary rounds or anything steel-tipped or armor piercing. Shotguns are limited to slug rounds or 00/000 Buck. No birdshot rounds please. Shooters may also police their brass if they’d like.
NO STEEL AMMO

No steel-cased or steel-cored ammunition of any type is permitted. Shooting steel indoors presents a fire hazard and is strictly prohibited.

VALID I.D. REQUIRED

A valid ID is required when checking in to the range. Driver License is preferred but we will also take Passports, Military ID’s and CCW permits.

AGE RESTRICTIONS

All range patrons 21 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult 21 or older. Youth shooters are required to be at least 10 years of age and and have adult supervision.

JCF Range Rules

We want to ensure that everyone feels safe and comfortable on our range. Here’s a list of rules that we ask you to follow while utilizing our range and retail facility.

Range patrons will be asked to review the range rules upon checking in to shoot.

  • All range patrons 21 years of age or younger must be accompanied by an adult 21 or older.

  • A valid ID is required when checking in to the range.

  • Always treat every firearm as if it were loaded (even if you know it’s not) and keep your muzzle pointed down range in a safe direction.

  • Always case and uncase your firearms in your shooting stall only. Not in the retail area or behind the orange line in the range area.

  • No handling of firearms behind the firing line or shooting stalls area.

  • ALL FIREARM actions must remain open and the chamber empty until ready to fire.

  • Do not insert rounds or magazine in to your firearm unless standing at the firing line.

  • Always keep your trigger finger off of the trigger until you are pointed in a safe direction down range and ready to fire.

  • Always keep your firearms safety on until you are ready to fire.

  • Always wear hearing and vision protection while in the shooting range area.

  • Shooting from an unstable position (i.e. hip shooting) is prohibited.

  • No shoulder slinging of firearms on or behind the firing line.

  • All firearms are subject to inspection by Joplin Centerfire personnel.

  • All ammunition is subject to inspection by Joplin Centerfire personnel.

  • No steel core, armor piercing, incendiary, black powder or tracer ammunition of any kind permitted in the shooting range.

  • For safety purposes, hand load ammunition is permitted upon a Joplin Centerfire Personnel’s inspection.

  • Shotguns may fire slug rounds, double-ought or triple-ought buck ammunition only. No birdshot.

  • Only one shooter is allowed to shoot from the stall at a time.

  • No shooting at targets on any lane other than your own.

  • Position your target so that you DO NOT shoot the ceiling baffles, floor or sidewalls.

  • If you drop any equipment in your stall, bench your firearm with the muzzle pointed down range. Then retrieve your items from the ground.

  • Never cross the firing line (front of your stall) to retrieve something. Locate the nearest Range Safety Officer or Joplin Centerfire Personnel.

  • You may retrieve your brass from behind the firing line or within your stall area only.

  • Any and all commands issued by our Range Officers or Joplin Centerfire Personnel must be immediately followed without question.

  • If questions or concerns arise, bench your firearm and contact the nearest Range Officer or Joplin Centerfire Personnel.

What are your hours of operation?

Monday: CLOSED

Tuesday – Sunday: 11AM – 7PM

Do you sell firearms and ammunition?

Yes! Joplin Centerfire is proud to be one of the Four State Area’s leading firearms, ammunition and accessory retailers.

Do you have an outdoor shooting range?

Not at this time. However, our indoor range does permit shooters to fire handguns, rifles and shotguns inside the range. Plus we have all the neccessities for sighting in a rifle.

Should I make a reservation for the shooting range?

It is not required to make a reservation to use the range. However, if you plan to come at a certain time, it never hurts to make one! Reservations can be made online, through social media pages or by calling the shop at 417-206-0908. Reservations are encouraged for weekend shooters. If you do wish to make a reservation, a TWO-HOUR MINIMUM advanced notice is required prior to  your requested reservation time.

Is there a time limit for the shooting range?

No. Range pass shooters and members both may stay on the firing line as long as they’d like during regular business hours. During times of heavier range traffic, JCF staff may implement a temporary time management system to help accomodate flow during those times.

Are there any age restrictions for using the shooting range?

Shooters must be a minimum age of 10 years old to enter the shooting range. Any range patron  under the age of 21 years old, must be accompanied by an adult 21  years of age or older.

I have little to none shooting experience and I'd like to visit the shooting range. What's my first step?

We welcome new shooters on a daily basis! Just set up a time with us to come by for an hour or two and take a private lesson. We will fit you in to the proper firearm for starting out, and then show you the ropes! Or the targets…however you wanna look at it!

What to do in case of a cease fire?

In case of a cease fire: immediately stop shooting, unload your firearm, lock the action open, place your firearm on the shooting bench with the muzzle facing down range and step back from the firing line. The Range Officer will communicate with the firing line at this time.

What to do if you experience a firearm malfunction while on the range?

If you experience a problem or malfunction with your firearm, bench your firearm with the muzzle pointed down range and contact the nearest Range Safety Officer.

May I retrieve my brass casings?

Yes, you are more than welcome to collect your spent brass during your range visit. Please refrain from collecting  other shooters spent casings. DO NOT go beyond the firing line shooting bench to retrieve your casings. Ask a RSO if you need assistance.

Are Class III and/or NFA firearms allowed on your range?

Class 3 firearms and NFA items must be accompanied with the proper paperwork.
